Hortipower: Pioneer in Dimmable LED Technology

In the world of tomato cultivation, Hortipower, led by Tom Lefevre (and in co-ownership with Dirk Van de Plas en John Vermeiren) and part of the Tomeco Group, has distinguished itself as a true pioneer. This innovative company has paved the way in the low countries by being the first tomato grower to use dimmable LEDs. They cultivate a wide range of cultivars as the Intense, Plum Tomatos and Thomassa.

The journey began in 2020 when MechaTronix supplied Hortipower with 4.5 hectares of dimmable LED grow lights. This investment proved to be a game-changer for the company. The dimmable LEDs offered unprecedented flexibility and efficiency, allowing them to steer under DLI. This way they can adjust the growlights with high precision to the needs of the crops.

In 2018, they chose non-dimmable lights from another renowned LED supplier. Thanks to the higher efficiency and positive experiences with dimming the MechaTronix LEDs, MechaTronix supplied dimmable LEDs again in 2024 for 1.5 hectares to replace the previous lights. As a result, Hortipower now has a total of 6 hectares fully equipped with the advanced dimmable LED technology from MechaTronix.
