Anthura: Innovating with MechaTronix LED Lighting to Meet Complex Growing Demands
About Anthura
As a leading expert in anthuriums, orchids, and bromeliads, Anthura's passion lies in creating vibrant plants and flowers. They focus on breeding innovative and sustainable varieties, catering to both professional growers and enthusiastic consumers. Their dedicated team transforms trends in production, technology, and consumer preferences into new breeds for tomorrow's market.
Longstanding Partnership with MechaTronix
Anthura has been a valued customer of MechaTronix for years. In 2022, they equipped their state-of-the-art greenhouse with advanced LED lighting systems featuring independently controllable far-red light channels. This capability addresses one of their key challenges: providing supplemental far-red light during the darkest winter months when natural light is limited to as little as 5-6 hours a day.
Far-red light plays a critical role for Anthura's crops. For orchids, it promotes longer stems, improved bud development, additional bud formation, and faster stretching. For anthuriums, far-red light serves a contrasting function—helping to slow growth where necessary to refine crop quality. Thanks to MechaTronix's far-red solutions, Anthura ensures their plants grow without delays, even during the year's most light-deprived periods.
Expanding with Tailored Three-Channel Systems
In 2023, Anthura took another step forward by adopting MechaTronix’s three-channel LED systems for specific applications. These lights feature tunable channels for green or white light —essential for breeders selecting precise traits, and satisfies government subsidy requirements. The white light, though energy-intensive, can be adjusted or switched off, allowing energy savings while fully utilizing the other channels. In addition, surplus power can even be sold back to the grid.
In 2024, Anthura plans to implement MechaTronix’s three-channel LED systems for their breeding programs, exploring how far-red light impacts bromeliads—a key area of interest for their breeding core business.
