Cucumbers

A major breakthrough in growing cucumbers under full LED grow light installations was made in 2021 through research by Proefstation voor de Groententeelt (Belgium), Delphy (The Netherlands), and the Wageningen University division in Bleiswijk (The Netherlands). While it was observed that cucumbers exhibited a lack of respiration under LED grow lights and an unnatural leaf stance, the introduction of selective use of Far Red light photons during the photoperiod proved to be key for this crop.

In recent years, over 200 hectares of high-tech greenhouses have been equipped with full LED installations for cucumbers, including long English, mini, and snack cucumbers.
